Claire was born "tongue tied". This means that there was a piece of tissue under her tongue that "tied" it down so she couldn't move it very much. There are different levels of this and hers wasn't too bad. In fact, it wasn't noticed at birth. We started to notice it when brushing her teeth and as she got older she couldn't lick her lips. Our dentist told us that he could fix this problem and we had it taken care of because eventually it could lead to speech problems.
Even after her tongue was fixed, it took her awhile to learn how to use it. She didn't know how to stick it out at first because she had never been able to do it before. But now, it's as good as new!
